Bristlecone Stump

Title: Bristlecone Stump
Location:
,
The bristlecone pines are thought to be the oldest living trees in the world. This grove, found near the top of Rocky Mountain National Park lies on the top of an exposed ridge. The average age of the rocky mountain sub species of bristlecone pine is 1500 years old. These trees show what an eon of 100 mph winds can do to a tree. They are gnarled, leaning, and mostly still alive. This photo focuses on a stump I found interesting, especially with the contrast of the still living, but weathered trees in the background.
