Mt. Powell Wildflowers

Title: Mt. Powell Wildflowers
Location:
, Colorado
Wildflowers are fickle. I have lived in Summit County for nearly 30 years and have never seen a patch of lupine and mule's ears like this. These blooms were found on a hillside near Green Mountain Reservoir. These are low elevation flowers by Summit standards. They are usually found in areas containing sagebrush and prefer southeast facing slopes. When I happened upon this explosion of purple and gold I was happily surprised to see how well they complemented a distant Mt. Powell, which is the highest peak in the Gore Range.
